Former BBC Director General Greg Dyke says Jeremy Clarkson is 'a disaster waiting to happen'

Dyke, who is currently FA Chairman, said it's a lose lose situation as the BBC decide Clarkson's fate

Former BBC Director General and current FA Chairman Greg Dyke says Jeremy Clarkson is a "disaster waiting to happen".

The Top Gear host was suspended after allegedly hitting producer Oisin Tymon in a "fracas" earlier this month, and is now awaiting the BBC's decision on whether to keep him on the show.

Now Mr Dyke has admitted whatever the decision, it is a lose lose situation.

Speaking to ITV News today, he said Clarkson is “a disaster waiting to happen” for the BBC and that whatever the outcome, the corporation “can’t win either way now”.

He added: "First of all I’d say that I don’t think Jeremy Clarkson is the first presenter I’ve met who would have liked to have thumped his producer but in truth he is a disaster waiting to happen really for the BBC.

"It’s hard to…I’m glad I’m not the executive who has to take that decision because if you were, you can’t win either way now.

“Even if you decide to keep Jeremy…what happens next?”

It comes as four Top Gear shows that were scheduled to take place in Norway next week were postponed.

It is understood the decision to delay the live performances was taken in part because presenter Clarkson remains suspended.

His future at the BBC is likely to be decided this week when the corporation's internal investigation into his conduct is handed over to the director-general.

A statement issued tonight said: "Top Gear Live regrets to inform ticket holders for next week's shows in Stavanger, Norway that we will be postponing all four performances, with rescheduled dates for later this year to be confirmed within the next fortnight.

"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this will cause fans and we will endeavour to contact all ticket holders directly to inform them of the change of dates.

"At present, all other Top Gear Live dates will run as scheduled."

As well as the Clarkson situation, it is understood the postponement has been announced because organisers wanted to give fans enough notice to cancel travel and accommodation plans and because work to prepare the venue would have needed to start well in advance of the shows.
