Demi Lovato claims boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama saved her from rehab

The star has opened up about her ongoing battles and revealed her boyfriend has supported her

Demi Lovato has revealed she has an ongoing battle with her eating disorder, and has admitted that she nearly had to return to rehab for treatment last year, but her boyfriend helped her by spotting the signs early.

The Heart Attack singer, who is a huge advocate for eating disorders and self-harm, spent three-months getting treatment for bulimia and a self-harming disorder along with drug abuse back in 2010 and has spoken openly about her issues to her fans in the hope that they are able to get help if needed.

Now, the star has credited her long-term boyfriend, 34-year-old Wilmer Valderrama for helping her avoid a relapse by spotting signs early on that she was headed for a relapse.

Speaking about her recovery, the 22-year-old star said: "It's been difficult. I almost went back to rehab for my eating disorder last summer. I was obsessing over food and terrified of it at the same time. Wilmer noticed and called me out on it, which was a relief."

Demi is slowly learning to enjoy a balanced diet.

She told Fitness magazine: "Now I'm on a structured meal plan. I eat four small meals and two snacks a day. It's teaching me portion control."

The former Disney star, who still works out regularly so she can be stronger "physically and mentally," insists she feels much more confident about her body these days and her new motto is: "If Beyoncé can do it, I can do it."
